State of the Mod - September 2024 - The Meridional Valley

Updated: Jan 3

Hi everyone! Mr. Cosmogone here with more Lordbound previews. Today we’ll walk about the Tangled Moot. Considered the wildest area of the valley, it’s home to crumbling fortresses, placid giants, sinister Reachmen and all manner of outcasts.

In the distance, you can guess at the shapes of Cragmere Keep. Once the seat of the lords of the valley, it has long lain abandoned.

The weary traveler would do well to steer clear of these old, curse-ridden stones. Once the main seat of power in the valley, it lost its importance after Highreach became the new capital.

The exact circumstances regarding its fall into decrepitude have faded from memory. Today, only fools would try to elucidate this mystery.

On a more harmonious note, not all Reachman clans in the valley turned to the dark arts to support the reclaiming of their homeland. The Blackthorns were a peaceful people, striving to live in harmony with nature. They left behind a lush area, forming a natural barrier to the swamps surrounding Motte Malgorath.

This area became known as the Tangled Moot, and there the roads of yore are slowly but steadily disappearing under all manner of vines, roots and fresh earth.

Alas, the Blackthorn clan met their fate at the hands of their Reachman cousins. The Ravenheart and Longfang clans had received kill orders from the crones and hagravens leading them, and promptly executed their kin. Today, only giants and spriggans inhabit the once verdant territory of the Blackthorns.

To the west, Fort Rustagov overlooks the Tangled Moot. The silent shapes of Longfangs haunt its ramparts. Among the wayfarers of Orefell, some say that at night, something much more sinister than wicked Reachmen can be glimpsed.

Deep in the mountains, foreign architectural remnants hint at the forgotten history of the valley. Speculation runs wild about what lies in wait within the bowels of the earth.

So far however, no one has managed to pierce the magic wards sealing this place off. Or if they did, they have yet to return to tell the tale.

South of the lush lands of the Blackthorn clan lay a cold and almost barren region. Centuries of rain have progressively drained most nutrients in the ground, and only the hardiest plants and people still live around here.

Well secluded in these inhospitable lands, the Longfangs perform abject rituals to swell their ranks with unspeakable creatures.

In the icy heights of the south, more remnants of the Dwemer presence dot the landscape where they used to draw freezing water to cool their machines and forges.

That’s all for today folks!

And join us next month for a special dev diary looking in more details at the sinister and spooky places of the valley. Undead, ghosts and revenants galore will strike fear in the hearts of the living.

We are, as always, open for recruitment. If you’re willing to help, please apply via our Volunteer page, or join us on Discord and send a DM to Kiria.
